Transition Trunk Drive/Scholarship
For the first four years of our founders educational career, she selected students who she felt could use additional support and resources and that she knew would appreciate the gesture. The first year, she teamed with Kimiko Gardner, another educator in the city of Richmond, to buy dorm necessities such as a shower caddies, pillows, cleaning and school supplies, laundry basket, etc., to give to 2 high school during their transition from high school to college.
Each year that our founder has given away items to help transition, the number of recipients increased as well as the number of items she has been able to give. With the help of the community, her goal of sticking to 3 recipients after year 2, increased to 5 in 2020.
Last year, in 2020, we were able to raise enough money and items to personalize and fill 20 transition trunks! Therefore, we have a new goal to give away 20 trunks to the Richmond Public Schools Class of 2021 and we will increase by 1 every year. Instead of awarding to students who we personally know, we will award transition trunks those who apply to receive one. This will help us to give back on a bigger scale, in more Richmond schools, and eventually in surrounding inner city school districts. We are truly grateful for the ongoing support from our community members, local business partners, and nonprofit organizations who supports our mission.
